HPCMST - Data acquisition system for the new CMS tracker with an FPGA-based supercomputing system
The Particle Physics Department and the BEAMS Department of ULB propose to investigate a new concept of data acquisition system for the new tracker of the CMS experiment at the LHC. This concept is based on the parallel data processing at the trigger level. Such architecture is nowadays possible with the technologies used in modern data acquisition systems used in particle physics, namely the FPGA. The most recent FPGAs can associate on a single chip, the performance of parallel processing and the configuration versatility of programmable logic together with the flexibility and easiness of a processor.
For this project, both services will join their respective expertise and wish to hire a high-level logistician to emulate the new architecture on a super-computing FPGA-based prototyping system, available at the BEAMS Department.
