The µ&Bio-Mechatronics Research Unit has gathered expertise medical devices, biomechanics and bioelectronics.

The unit is active in the following research fields: : 

The group is active in flexible endoscopy, more specifically in:

  • Flexible mechanics
  • Design of medical devices for therapeutic endoscopy
  • Force feedback system and size measurement device for endoscopic applications
  • Real time in vivo biosensor
  • Controllable stiffness mechanism for endoscopic and catheter applications

Regarding biomechanics, the group is active in:

  • Musculoskeletal & Orthopaedic biomechanics
  • Experimental and Numerical analysis of human & animal joints
  • Orthopaedic implants design and analysis
  • Mechanical characterization of soft tissues
  • Patient specific & finite element modelling
  • Knee Biomechanics


In bioelectronics, the group is active in:

  • Neurostimulation
  • Implant design and manufacturing – implantable optoelectronics
  • Gastric micro-invasive implantable stimulator
  • Neuromodelling
  • EEG and auditory nerve modelling and analysis
  • Medical monitoring devices – 3D Ballistocardiography
