Context

The thesis will be done at Barco-Silex site in Louvain-La-Neuve. Barco-Silex is a specialist in embedded system development (FPGA/board/SW), in video applications and others.

Various video compression algorithms are developed targeting FPGA devices.

In that context, there is an interest to study/develop codecs supporting new HDR formats.

Objective

The objective is to study how to support HDR content for different codecs (JPEG2000, JPEG XT, VC-2) and analyze the quality of the codecs.

The objective is also to implement or modify existing codecs to support HDR content.

Tasks

The student will have to understand video concepts, compression algorithms and their implementation especially HDR formats. He will have to do software models, VHDL design, use the FPGA development tools (simulations, implementations…).

Internship: this master thesis is compatible with a preliminary 10 ECTS internship at Barco Silex.
