“Modelisation of seasonal (Power to X) storage in a market model and assessing its economic impact on the European system

Proposed content

·        Literature review for the different seasonal storage options; 

·        Evaluating different seasonal storage options (technologies, maturity, costs, efficiencies, future evolution, potential …), could also be storage into other sectors;

·        Implementation in ANTARES (market model) that is used by Elia to simulate the European electricity system

o   Get to know ANTARES

o   Base model will be provided by Elia (2030 or 2040 time horizon)

o   The student will need to add the seasonal storage facilities into the model (way to model it, constraints, etc.)

o   Set up the model and validate the behavior the facility/ies

o   Analyse different seasonal storage options (if identified in the first stage)

·        Assess the economic impact of the seasonal storage (cost benefit analysis, drivers for such facility,…);

·        Assessing other benefits of seasonal storage (balancing, flexibility, …).
