[STIMULATION] : Development of a graphical and logical control interface for an implantable stimulator

Supervision : The student will be based at ULB, supervised by Antoine Nonclercq et Laurent Lonys, and work in close collaboration with Anne Vanhoest from the Implanted Devices Group of University College London.

Context: The LARSI (Lumbosacral Anterior Root Stimulator Implant) is a stimulator developed to restore control of leg motions in paraplegic patients.  Its control unit is based on an FPGA controlling a purpose build multiplexing stimulator front-end.  We wish to improve this basic design and introduce flexibility by replacing the FPGA with a micro-controller.

Description : The intern will work towards improving the control unit by programming a new microcontroller, and implementing a graphical interface to allow user-friendly programmation of the stimulation parameters.  If the intern is successful, he/she will have the opportunity to build a prototype of the new stimulator in the IDG’s cleanroom.
